We had the honor of welcoming State Secretary Elisabeth Zehetner, accompanied by Member of the National Council Christoph Zarits, to our testing laboratory in Mattersburg. The visit was all about innovation, hydrogen technology and a sustainable energy future.
In an exciting exchange, we were able to present our activities in the field of material testing and safety assessment for hydrogen applications. It became clear how important research and regional competence centers such as SCIOFLEX Hydrogen are for the implementation of the Austrian and European hydrogen strategy.

NETZSCH visit to SCIOFLEX Hydrogen
We had the pleasure of welcoming Christian Motzelt, Head of Branch Office Austria of the NETZSCH Group, to Mattersburg. NETZSCH is a leading international company in the field of materials testing and thermal analysis - and therefore an exciting partner for joint developments in the characterization of materials for hydrogen applications.
The exchange focused on synergies between testing technology and hydrogen materials research, particularly with regard to innovative testing methods and precise analysis.

As part of the Innovation Award Burgenland 2025, we received an award in the"Innovative Service" category.
The award recognizes our work in the field of material testing and characterization for hydrogen applications - a key issue for the safety and efficiency of the future hydrogen economy. With our testing methods, we are making an important contribution to making materials fit for use in a sustainable energy future.
We would like to thank the province of Burgenland, the Burgenland Chamber of Commerce and the Austrian Research Promotion Agency(FFG) for their recognition and support - and see the award as motivation to continue on our path of innovation!

SCIOFLEX Hydrogen at the Smart Energy Week 2025 in Tokyo - supported by the EU Business Hub
We are pleased to inform you that SCIOFLEX Hydrogen 's participation in the Smart Energy Week 2025 in Tokyo has been supported by the EU Business Hub. This support enables European companies to present innovations in the field of sustainable energy technologies internationally and build valuable partnerships in Asia.
Our colleague Dr. Winoj Balasooriya was on site and was able to make exciting contacts with companies and research institutions from Japan and all over Asia. The focus was on material characterization, hydrogen safety and international cooperation - key topics for the further development of a global hydrogen economy.
A big thank you to the EU Business Hub for the funding and to everyone who made the exchange on site possible. We look forward to incorporating the new ideas into our work at SCIOFLEX Hydrogen!
Visit of VZÚ Plzeň to SCIOFLEX Hydrogen
We are delighted to welcome Hana Jirková, Laboratory of Metallography Manager at VZÚ Plzeň(Výzkumný a zkušební ústav Plzeň s.r.o.). The renowned research and testing institute from the Czech Republic is an important partner in European materials research.
The focus of the meeting was the exchange on joint research projects in the field of hydrogen and materials. Particularly exciting: together with German partners, we submitted a CETP call on the topic of hydrogen and materials - a further step towards strong European cooperation for the development of safe and efficient hydrogen technologies.

On July 7, 2025, we had the pleasure of welcoming Federal Minister Norbert Totschnig to the SCIOFLEX Hydrogen test laboratory. The high-ranking visit is a strong signal of appreciation for our innovative strength and underlines the importance of hydrogen technology for climate protection.
In a personal and constructive exchange, we were able to present our current developments in the field of green hydrogen solutions. Together, we discussed the next steps on the road to a safe, sustainable and independent hydrogen economy in Austria and Europe.

Focus on research partnership: visit from John von Neumann University
International cooperation in the field of hydrogen technology: SCIOFLEX Hydrogen welcomed Dr. Erika Varga and her team from John von Neumann University (Hungary) to Mattersburg. The visit focused on discussions about joint R&D projects relating to future-oriented hydrogen applications.
During a tour of our testing facilities, initial ideas for collaboration were put into concrete terms - including material characterization in a hydrogen atmosphere, permeation tests and the development of safe materials for the hydrogen infrastructure.
International exchange is a central component of our innovation strategy. We would like to thank John von Neumann University for the inspiring visit and look forward to cross-border research cooperation in the future.
Successful start to the "HyPolFail" research project
The European research project "HyPolFail" has officially started: At the kick-off meeting at the Mattersburg site, SCIOFLEX Hydrogen welcomed the project partners from several countries. Together, they are working on solutions for the hydrogen economy as part of the M-ERA.NET program.
The meeting focused on personal exchange, coordination of initial work packages and coordination of scientific and technical objectives. The consortium brings together experts from industry, research and academia - a strong alliance for interdisciplinary innovation.
Over the next three years, bundled know-how for safe and efficient hydrogen technologies will be created. SCIOFLEX Hydrogen is looking forward to the collaboration and exciting research results.
Insight into Japan's hydrogen future: Visit to HyTRec in Fukuoka
On our trip through Japan, we visited the Hydrogen Technology Research Center(HyTRec) in Fukuoka - made possible by SCIOFLEX Hydrogen. The center is one of the leading facilities for hydrogen technology in Japan.
Special thanks go to Dr. Hirotaka Shibata, Technical Manager at HyTRec, for the in-depth presentation, the exciting technical discussions and the exclusive tour of the research center.
The visit was an impressive demonstration of how Japan is strategically promoting hydrogen as the energy carrier of the future. This experience strengthens our commitment to international knowledge exchange and sustainable energy solutions.
Visit to the Hydrogenious Research Center at Kyushu University in Fukuoka, Japan
As part of our trip to Japan, we visited the leading Research Center for Hydrogen Industrial Use and Storage (Hydrogenious) at Kyushu University in Fukuoka. The center is a leading institution in hydrogen research with expertise in materials science, polymers and tribological applications.
We gained insights into ongoing research projects and discussed potential collaborations on topics such as hydrogen embrittlement of steels, polymers in hydrogen environments and tribological challenges relevant to SCIOFLEX Hydrogen.
We would like to thank Prof. Shin Nishimura and the entire team for the open exchange. We see great potential for deeper cooperation between Europe and Japan in the field of hydrogen technology.
Provincial Councillor Dr. Leonhard Schneemann visits SCIOFLEX Hydrogen in Mattersburg
State Councillor Dr. Leonhard Schneemann, responsible for business and research in Burgenland, visited our hydrogen test center in Mattersburg. During an intensive exchange, we discussed key future topics such as hydrogen technology, materials testing and research as a driver of the energy transition.
There was particular interest in our testing equipment - including the ZwickRoell HA100 with 400-bar H₂ autoclave ("The Hydro-Ripper"). Dr. Schneemann was impressed by the technical innovation at SCIOFLEX Hydrogen.

Visit from NOK Corporation - focus on elastomers in the hydrogen environment
We were pleased to welcome Mr. Yuki Noguchi (Head of Materials Research) and Mr. Aoyagi Yuichi (Manager R&D) from NOK Corporation in Japan to SCIOFLEX Hydrogen. As the world's leading manufacturer of sealing technology, NOK brings valuable expertise in the behavior of elastomers under the influence of hydrogen.
The focus was on technical discussions on the material behavior of seals in hydrogen environments. Key research priorities were jointly identified - an important step for future collaboration.
Hydrogen & the future: HTL Wiener Neustadt in the test lab
During a visit of the HTL Wiener Neustadt in our hydrogen test laboratory, we discussed the question with the students: What role does hydrogen play for the next generation?
The answers made it clear: green hydrogen stands for climate-neutral energy, sustainable mobility and technological innovation - and is seen by young people as the key to a future worth living.

Review: Lecture series "Polymer materials in the field of hydrogen"
On April 10, 2025, SCIOFLEX Hydrogen hosted a top-class series of lectures on the topic of polymer materials for hydrogen applications. Experts from industry and research discussed current challenges, regulatory requirements and new testing technologies for plastics in the high-pressure hydrogen environment.
Highlights included presentations by Dr. Geraldine Theiler (BAM), Dr. Winoj Balasooriya (SCIOFLEX Hydrogen), Dr. Andreas Kapshammer (JKU) and Günter Amon (Seal Maker). Live demonstrations in the ZwickRoell OpenTruck and an exclusive lab tour rounded off the event.

We welcomed Dr. Geraldine Theiler, Head of the Plastics Tribology Group at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), to SCIOFLEX Hydrogen. As an expert in tribology under cryogenic hydrogen conditions, she brings valuable expertise to a forward-looking topic.
During her visit, current research priorities and joint project ideas were discussed. We are currently coordinating closely to plan research-oriented projects in the field of innovative materials and testing approaches for hydrogen.

It was a special honor to welcome Prof. Nishimura from Kyushu University to SCIOFLEX Hydrogen. As a leading expert in the field of material behavior under the influence of hydrogen with over 30 years of research experience, he has significantly shaped the international understanding of materials in hydrogen environments.
Kyushu University is one of the leading institutions in hydrogen materials science research. We are delighted about the intensive exchange and the joint research priorities that have already been defined. A return visit by Dr. Bernd Schrittesser to Japan is already planned.

Green Tech Cluster Meeting
Experts discussed the latest developments in hydrogen technology at the networking meeting “Hydrogen: future engine for Burgenland” in Mattersburg. SCIOFLEX Hydrogen presented innovative test procedures that are crucial for the safe and long-lasting use of materials in the hydrogen economy.
Managing Director Bernd Schrittesser emphasized the importance of precise material testing for the energy transition. The event provided a valuable platform for the exchange and promotion of hydrogen as a key technology of the future.

SCIOFLEX Hydrogen was represented at the H2MSE Conference 2025 with two technical presentations:

Visit from TU Vienna: Insights into hydrogen technology and materials testing
We were pleased to welcome Ass. Prof. Dr. techn. Helmut Riedl-Tragenreif and around 20 students from the Vienna University of Technology (TU Vienna) at SCIOFLEX Hydrogen. Dr. Riedl-Tragenreif heads the Applied Surface and Coating Technology research group and the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Surface Technology of Highly Stressed Components at the Institute of Materials Science and Technology at TU Wien.
The visitors were given exciting insights into our testing technologies for hydrogen applications, ongoing research projects and current challenges in materials testing under high-pressure hydrogen.
