Holistic solutions for the switch to hydrogen

With many years of experience and interdisciplinary know-how, we offer you customized solutions for an efficient and safe conversion to hydrogen. Our comprehensive knowledge of materials and processes enables us to cover all relevant process steps. We support you in successfully mastering the challenges of the hydrogen economy and making your systems future-proof.

Pipeline rededication project

Converting existing pipelines to transport hydrogen is a key technology for the sustainable transformation of the energy industry. Operators of natural gas or liquid gas pipelines face the challenge of converting them for the safe transportation of hydrogen.

Our solution includes a precise analysis of material properties, with a particular focus on weld seams, to ensure the integrity of the pipeline in a hydrogen atmosphere. As part of our complete service package we offer

  • Extraction and production of test specimens directly from the pipeline
  • Material analysis and testing under realistic hydrogen conditions
  • Approval processes for the repurposed pipelines

Our integrated approach provides the operator with reliable, critical characteristic values that enable the pipeline to be safely rededicated. Your advantage: All work steps are coordinated and carried out to the highest quality, which simplifies the entire process.

HYPOLFAIL research project

Green hydrogen (gH₂) is a key technology for a sustainable energy future, but it poses considerable challenges in terms of safe storage and transportation. Traditional materials in particular face problems such as hydrogen embrittlement and permeability issues, which can compromise efficiency and safety.

HYPOLFAIL aims to develop optimized polymeric materials that can withstand the specific requirements of hydrogen applications. Focus of the project:

  • Development of elastomers and thermoplastics with improved H₂ compatibility and durability for seals and high-pressure gas storage tanks
  • Use of AI-supported multi-scale modeling and experimental testing (in-situ/ex-situ) to develop materials with improved permeation resistance (+10%) and extended service life (+20%)
  • Promoting a “Design THE materials” approach that provides innovative solutions for the sustainable hydrogen economy

The project supports a more reliable and cost-efficient hydrogen economy that is in line with EU climate targets and strengthens Europe's position in the global hydrogen market.
